The Gingerbread Man Is Back!

This story is a creative take on what would happen if the Gingerbread Man survived getting eaten by the fox in the well known children’s story “The Gingerbread Man”. It tells the tale of the Gingerbread Man’s journey of getting revenge on the little old lady with a twist at the end.

It’s been almost a year since the little old lady made me in her oven and I ran away after she tried to eat me. Since then, I’ve been on the run from the pig, cow, horse, and the fox, who ate a part of my leg, but they won’t ever catch me! I’M THE GINGERBREAD MAN.

In this last year I haven’t had a regular life as I’ve avoided everyone I see and never meeting one of my own kind. I’ve run away from countless homes and never had a stable, safe place to live, and finally I decided that things needed to change; I’m going to find that little old lady and get revenge.

“HEY! Kid, what you doin’ walkin’ ‘round in the dead of night? It’s dangerous! Hop in,” said a old man passing by in a truck.

“It’s fine. I don’t need a lift,” I said as I continued walking making sure the man didn’t see my face, or get a whiff of my delicious gingerbread exterior.

“It’s dangerous. Don’t want no dogs sniffin’ you out,” the man said slowing down to a stop. “Get in. You must be going to the lil’ o‘ cottage down the road too. Am I right?” he spoke as he opened the door, making me feel a little uneasy.

“Why do you know so much? Do you know that crazy little old lady? What are your motives? Why do you want to help me? Are you hungry?” I questioned while stepping closer to the truck.

“I’m the lil’ o’ lady’s husband! She’s been tryin’ to find you, Gingerbread Boy,” the little old man said as he reached over and opened the door.

“Then why should I trust you?! That crazy lady tried to eat me!” I yelled as I walked away from the car.

“What’s in it for you?” I asked the little old man.

“My wife won’t stop buggin’ me to find ya. She’s been worried ‘bout her kid. She acts like you’re her child, ya know.”

As I stood there thinking if he was telling the truth I considered my options. If followed him now I would get to the little old lady’s house right away without getting stopped by someone that can sniff me out, I thought to myself.

“I’ll go with you. But I’ll sit in the back of your truck. So I can jump out if you pull any funny business,” I said as jumped into the truck.

“Fine. That’s alright with me,” the little old man sneered as he started to drive down the road.

Soon we arrived at the little cottage. You could see that the little old lady was standing in the kitchen through the window. She was probably chowing down on another little gingerbread cookie.

“Ma wife is probably gon’ wanna see you,” the little old man explained.

I had been so worried about finding the little old lady that I hadn’t figured out my exact plans for revenge! I had to stay with them until I figured it out…

“Hun, is that you? Come on in, I have something to show you!” shouted the little old lady from the open window.

“Well, I gots a surprise for you too!” the little old man shouted back.

The little old man led me into the house and to the kitchen. In there stood the horrible little old lady and next to her was someone hidden underneath a towel.

“Oh dear! Is that the Gingerbread Boy?!” the little old lady said surprised. “ Where did you find him? Then she turned to me and said, “Where have you been boy?”

“Told ya you’d be surprised,” the little old man whispered to himself as he sat in the chair in the kitchen.

“It’s Gingerbread ‘Man’ to you. And I ran away because you were going to kill me!” I yelled, still paying attention to the person under the towel. “What’s that?”

“Well since my husband could never find ya, and I have no children it gets awfully lonesome here. So, I made a Gingerbread Girl,” the old lady said as she unwrapped the person under the towel.

Under the towel stood this beautiful Gingerbread Girl. Her hair was perfectly iced, she had such big eyes, and her gumdrop dress was extraordinary!

“WHAT THE—” yelled the little old man as he jumped from his seat.

“Oh hush up. Let them talk,” the little old lady said.

I wouldn’t know what to say. This was the first time that I met someone that was a Gingerbread cookie like me.

“It’s nice to meet you, I’m the Gingerbread Girl,” she said.

That night I stayed at the little old cottage with the little old lady, the little old man, and the Gingerbread girl. The little old lady explained herself that she would never try anything like eating the Gingerbread Girl and me again. She apologized and asked us to stay with them in the cottage.

With that we stayed with her and that was the beginning to this happily ever after.
