80s New Again

What do skinny jeans and 100.3 F.M. have in common? It’s the era of the 80s and the disco ball. We’re bringing it back! It seems the latest music and the newest fashions are decades old.

The New York Times compiled this to highlight the return of the 80s

Neon bright colors are the newest summer trend of 2012.  80s oranges, yellows, and pinks return the excitement and fun of the old days.  Just wear a bright neon-colored shirt and dark-colored jeans, and your outfit is well, a fit. Zebra and cheetah patterns are also back on the prowl along with blazers worn by women. Back then, blazers were worn with skirts to represent professionalism and quality of the outfit, but today, blazers give an outfit that ‘extra spice’ worn with skinny jeans. This gives you that casual look women can wear to the mall, to hang out with friends, or even for school presentations. Lace-up granny boots perfectly complement today’s styles. These boots are still worn with tight from the bottom jeans or even short and long skirts, but with a little twist of today’s fashion as well. Today’s twist, boots that are short cut to the ankle are worn just like the lace-up boots.

Jumpsuits are also coming back for the summer, a total retro look.  Some designed with different light bright colors, others designed with a single pattern color like gray, dark blue, or black.  Another 80s icon, the leg warmers, can still hug today’s spandex leggings and appear under an oversized top to create a fashionable outfit.  The new leg warmers are worn much tighter to the leg, and come in variety of sizes.

Along with clothing, the music established 30 years ago is influencing our tastes.  Greatest hits of that era, like “I’ll Be Missing You” and “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” have been remade by popular artists into modern faves. Michael Jackson’s famous dance moves continue to inspire artists like Chris Brown and Akon. Top 100 songs from the 80’s include Billie Jean, Into the Groove Super Freak, Beat It, and Funkytown by artists like Madonna, Rick James and many more.  Music never dies, and legends always live. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear a remix of the greatest songs of the 80’s on several radio stations across the world.

The 1980’s has inspired our culture and our society until this very day and it continues to expands. Truth is, believe it or not, something that’s sooo good, never dies out, it keeps on running.
