The release of brand new Leyden wear is all the rage this week. Although many students have been spotted sporting their new spirit gear throughout Leyden, many students also don’t know how this material form of school spirit became available for them to get their hands on.

Entrepreneurship teachers and owners of Leyden Outfitters, the 2014 Entrepreneurship class business, Mrs. Amy Gorzynski and Ms. Lauren Martire gave The Eagle’s Eye an inside scoop on what goes on behind the scenes of Leyden Outfitter’s spirit gear production.

“A major objective of the course is to form a class company. So throughout the semester, students learn the process of running a business including market research, product development, advertising, and selling.” explained Mrs.Gorzynski. “It’s up to the students to determine what product we will be seling and where and when we are going to sell it. Each Entrepreneurship student submitted designs, and then we asked the student body to vote on their favorites. We used that data to make our decision.”

Credit is due to senior and Entrepreneurship student Paula Bassmaji for designing the new Leyden t-shirts.

“During the designing process, I really focused on making a shirt that I would wear, and that my peers would wear. When I found out that my design was chosen, I felt really good about myself. It is an accomplishment knowing that people familiarize with your design and like it enough to purchase it.” shared Paula.

Freshman and Entrepreneurship student Josue Teran is the man behind the design for Leyden’s first ever stadium cups.

“My goal was to come up with something simple that represents Leyden. Through this experience, I felt like I was part of a business. I feel very accomplished.” said Josue.

Those students who did not create the designs, played an important role for the success of Leyden Outfitters. They created surveys, advertisements, and a logo for the product.

“Leyden Outfitter’s products encourage our classes to spread school spirit among the entire student body. In addition to Entrepreneurship students seeing a return on their investment in the form of a dividend and gaining a better understanding of all aspects of running a successful business, a part of the proceeds will go towards a charitable organization that our classes decide on.” clarified Ms. Martire.

Show your school spirit by purchasing a t-shirt for $10, a hoodie for $20, or a stadium cup for $2. Leyden Outfitter’s products can be bought in Room 245, TSI Room 262, and will be available for purchase in the cafeteria on November 21st, 24th, 25th, 26th.
