Inspiring her students one day at a time.

After 27 years of working happily here at East Leyden, beloved Sra. Beatrice Porro is retiring with the class of 2017. Sra. Porro has worked for the Leyden district since 1989, and began working at East Leyden since 1992, teaching Spanish. She teaches different levels of, ranging from Spanish 3 to Spanish 5 AP.
Her years at Leyden have impacted Sra. Porro in so many positive ways. Working here at Leyden, she has learned how to interact with the younger generation.

Not only did she learn with the students, but from students. “My students taught me certain things I did not know, like how to enjoy life, be happy, and just be myself,” stated Porro. Her students, “bring life to her heart” she recalled with emotion. One of the things she will miss most about Leyden will be her students.
Concerning her hopes for this year, she intends to “enjoy the next 7-8 months and try not cry too much.”
She said, “I love working here at Leyden, and I would not change a single thing if I had the chance.”
Upon retiring, Sra. Porro intends to travel to see her daughter, who lives in England, and go to Arizona. She does not plan to stop there. She plans to “come back to Leyden to substitute and help students with the AP Spanish exam.” She continues to bring spirit and excitement everyday to class despite knowing she won’t reside in room 133 next year.
