Key Club’s Latest Volunteer Effort Included Hot Chocolate

On November 4th several of East Leyden’s Key Club students volunteered at the Hot Chocolate Race in Grant Park, Chicago.

Students helped at the race by handing out water, mixing hot chocolate, and some even ran.

“We’re a service club, and we try to provide as much service to communities as we can,” said Dominic Manola, the sponsor of Key Club.

Sophomore volunteer Sweety Patel said that it was fun and she liked getting a sweatshirt, despite having to get up early.

Students had to be at school at 5 in the morning in order to make it on time for the race.

The race is a yearly event to raise money for various charities including the Ronald McDonald House Charities, and various cancer foundations. Participants could have either walked or ran the 5 or 15 kilometer race, and they were served hot chocolate upon finishing.

If you’re interested in volunteering with the Key Club, their meetings are every other Wednesday of the month.  Students can also see club advisers Mr. Manola or Anna Kass for further information.
