For the first time at Leyden, there is going to be a 3 versus 3 volleyball tournament between students.
The boys and girls volleyball teams are partnering up to host the event. Ms. Lauren Demkowski, a volleyball coach and the host of the event, worked hard to get as many students involved as possible. Some of the students that have signed up for the tournament are actual volleyball players who have played for Leyden before, but, Dembkowski said, “There is an even mix of students that have played volleyball for Leyden as well as groups of friends.” Anyone was welcome to join the tournament, and anyone can be on a team.
The tournament will also include raffles and concession for the contestants and the attendees of the event. The tournament will also include prizes for the winners.

Junior Natalie Payne said, “I signed up for the tournament because volleyball is something I really like to do, and I get to do it while hanging out with friends, and it’s doing it for a good cause.” Payne and Kamila Zieba are both on the volleyball team together, and they signed up for the tournament as a team along with their friend Patrycja.

Zieba said, “I am looking forward to having fun in this tournament.”
Payne added, “People should attend the tournament because it is a great way to meet new people and make new friends while having fun.”

The date of the tournament will be Friday, February 5th, from 4-6pm in the East Leyden Field House. Dembkowski is hopeful that there will be enough students to make this an annual event for Leyden because the main goal of the tournament is to have a lot of students involved and have a lot of people to attend it.

The tournament deadline to sign up was Wednesday, January 20. To sign up, a student had to have a form from Ms. Demkowski. Students could have emailed her at [email protected], or followed her on twitter at @MsDembkowski, to get the form. The cost to sign up for the tournament was $13, and that cost covered the entry fee and it also covered the cost of a tshirt.
