Varisty Football Team Wins Against Willowbrook 42-0

The varsity football team has clinched a tie for the West Suburban Gold Conference following an impressive win against Willowbrook on Friday October 5th.

Leyden now has a 6-1 record and Willowbrook took their first conference loss that night.

Quarterback Mike Smith had a 45 yard touchdown pass to senior Andrew Garcia early in the game, followed by a 49 yard rush by Smith making the score 14-0.

Senior Javier Rhoads caught an interception, which bounced off another player’s head, in the first half putting the score at 21-0.

Then during the second half, Smith threw a 46 yard screen pass to senior Mickey Gulo leading to another touchdown putting the score 28-0

The last two major plays of the game were a 15 yard rush touchdown by quarterback Mike Smith and a 4 yard pass to junior Frank Gulo to end the game 42-0.

Next week’s game is at home against Proviso East at 7:30 p.m. It is an important game because the Eagles can claim the title for West Suburban Gold Conference champs with a win.
