The Eagle's Eye

Swetha Ramkumar
Swetha Ramkumar is a reporter for the 2019-2020 East Leyden student news. She is a senior who loves traveling, listening to music, and hanging out with her family and friends. In addition, she hopes to be a Pediatrician in the future.

Her current news intake has a little bit of everything from the typical celebrity/pop-culture and tv show reports to the latest updates on what's happening in our country today, also with a few reports on sports and weather. She usually consumes her news intake from Twitter, Buzzfeed, Youtube, and Instagram, with the exception of her occasional car rides with her parents where she listens to the local news station. As she scrolls through the Twitter trending page or her Instagram feed, she sees the preview for the new season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, she reads about Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth's devastating divorce, as she fell in love with their love story ever since watching The Last Song. Her diet isn't all about celebrities, as she mentioned earlier when she is in the cars with her parents she'll listen to WGN, where they report of the daily traffic and weather, as well as some local news that affect the Chicago-land residents.

Even though it is easy for Swetha to get caught in the pop-culture reports, she hopes to consume more political reports in her news intake and weather reports, as it is tremendously changing day by day, as it is important to know what happens in her country today, even if it isn't a headline.

She has improved her current news diet to what she had hoped, as she is staying up to date on both Hurricane Dorian and The Amazon Fire, through news sources such as Twitter, CNN, and The Weather Channel occasionally. Alongside her current intake on the weather, she has been more active on reading about political news that doesn't always make the headlines, she recently read about former Starbucks CEO dropping out of the presidential race, as well as Senator Kirsten Gillbrand, who ran her campaign on women's rights, which is inspiring, yet upsetting as she has now pulled out of the race. Day by day, Swetha has improved her current new intake, even if it's just reading a headline and not clicking on it to read the full story, she is still educating herself about the world around her. Even though these are just a few, small results to Swetha's new news diet intake, she promises to herself she will be committed to following it.
