On October 8th, the Leyden Eagles (1-4) faced off versus the Hinsdale South Hornets(3-2) at home.

This game had huge implications as the Leyden Eagles looked to keep their playoff hopes alive and the only way to do so was to defeat the Hornets. Leyden ultimately fell to the Hornets 26-3.

Leydens’ leading rusher and senior, Aaron Whigham, finished the game with 59 yards on 16 carries.

Whigham commented on the loss “we looked to stop the bleeding as a team as we have been consecutively losing games but we couldn’t put it together as a team.”

The Eagles only score being a field goal kicked by Junior Kevin Vargas.

Junior Quarterback Tom “Casper” Pajor struggled as he completed 8 of 22 passes with only 90 yards through the air.

The defense was put in numerous difficult situations as the team would stop Hinsdales’ offensive series, then be forced back on the field following offensive miscues such as Leyden’s 3 interceptions and one fumble.

With a team full of juniors, the inexperience couldn’t be any more apparent as the high expectations of this season slowly disintegrated as the game clock hit double zeroes.

Coach Tom Cerasani commented on the loss versus the Hornets saying  “you have to tip your hat to Hinsdale South. They simply outplayed us on Friday night. We made some mistakes, but in all, they were the better team Friday night”

This has been a rough year for the Eagles as they are now 1-5 and just look to finish the season with a few more wins as  they square off against  (1-5) Morton this Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Morton High school in Cicero.
