Leyden Boy’s Basketball has proved their talent to many teams, coaches, and fans this year. With their final record of 17-12 the boys have had many accomplishments. Some include winning the title as champs for the Thanksgiving (Ridgewood) and Christmas (Glenbard West) tournaments, and even beating long time rival, the Morton Mustangs, on our home court on Senior Night.

Another highlight this year was Head Coach Mr. Bill Heisler’s 100th win, which against Downer’s Grove South. The team was excited for Heisler and they were glad to be a part of such a great milestone in their coach’s career. Heisler expresses his gratitude on twitter saying, “‏@heisler32: Thanks to #leydenpride and @Leydenathletics for the chance to be an Eagle and all of the support along the way.”
Herrera, who has also broken the record for the most 3’s made in a regular season (98 three-pointers), said, “We should have won more games, but that’s in the past and we can’t do anything about that anymore.” The boys beat Willowbrook, 64-53, at the Glenbard West Christmas Tournament but fell short when they played them again on our home court. Although they came with high energy in their last conference game at Willowbrook, the boys unfortunately lost with an ending score of 62-67; crowning Willowbrook as the West Suburban Gold Conference Champions. Herrera hopes that the team learns from the mistakes they have made this past season and to keep working together to improve for next season.

We only need three more wins to be the best team at Leyden in 20 years.” Aiello hopes that his team continues to grow and to be better than they were this year.
