Kicking off the 2016 season with flying colors, our Leyden varsity football team slaughtered the Fenton Bison 46-0 leaving spirits high for the upcoming season. Leyden led 39-0 at the end of the first half and scored again to flawlessly open the second half, starting a mercy-rule running clock for the last 20 minutes of the game.

Energizing the first period, senior tailback Donavan Brown scored the first two touchdowns for the Eagles, ripping 125 yards and setting the crowd ablaze. Closing the first period at 19-0, senior quarterback, Mike Wilms added to the total running attack of 289 yards in the first half while shooting another 56 yards through the air to Josh Cubon.

Running-back Fabian Vega required only six carries to tally TD sprints of 42 and 39 yards before his replacement, Dom Fredrickson, set off 14 yards, ultimately scoring on the sixth TD during the first half. Wilms had 57 yards on five tries.

Head Coach Mr. Tom Cerasani went into the game wanting “to play mistake free football…do what we’re coached to do.” That included running for 395 yards on 33 runs, victoriously ending the game 46-0.
