Seniors Javier Rhodes (weight class 285) and Tyler Jones (weight class 145) advanced to the IHSA sectional tournament which will take place on Friday and Saturday.
The sectional meet, which will take place at Maine East High School, will be broadcast online on High School Cube.
Rhodes came away as the regional champion, while Jones was the runner up at last weekend’s regional tournament at York Community High School.
At the regional Jones and Rhodes pushed through their semifinals matches and were the only two Eagles to move onto the finals. Jones fell short, but Rhoades won his finals match and was crowned regional champion.
In order to advance to the state tournament Jones and Rhodes will need to place in the top 4 at sectionals.
The main competition at sectionals is powerhouse Oak Park River Forest who is bringing 13 out of their 14 wrestlers into the tournament and 11 regional champs.
The Maine East Sectional begins on Friday at 5:30 pm and continues Saturday starting at 10:00 am and can be found on High School Cube at: http://www.highschoolcube.com/event/maine-east-sectional-championships-high-school-wre-305274
