New Indie Artist “The 1975” debuts chart-topping album in the U.S.

The chart-topping, new band The 1975 just released their self-titled debut album on September 2nd, 2013. The album debuted at number one on the UK charts and is currently at number 36 on the US iTunes top 100 albums.

The 1975 are a group breaking through the indie/alternative scene. The band had previously released four EP’s (Extended Play), which is basically like a mini album, all in the last year and a half,  all of which did very well on the UK charts.

The band is slowly but surely rising in popularity, especially here in the States. With features on the Fuse music channel, to the debut album on the front page feature on iTunes, more and more teens and young adults are starting to recognize their amazing talent.

The foursome, which consists of Matthew Healy (vocals, guitar), Adam Hann (guitar), George Daniel (drums), and Ross MacDonald (bass), met in 2002 while attending high school in Wilmslow in Cheshire, England.

They kicked off their solo, fall U.S. tour on September 14th, with no group currently set to open up for them, yet their show in Chicago at Lincoln Hall on October 19th has sold out.

So, for a group that has just debuted their first album, has almost a sold out U.S. tour this fall, and features on TV, I’d say the raves they’re getting are well-deserved.

Indie and alternative may not be everyone’s type of music, but The 1975 are definitely a group to keep your eyes on for the future.
