While many of us don’t trick-or-treat anymore, Leyden band is setting up to deliver a treat of its own for the upcoming holiday.

The fine arts department will be offering a free Halloween concert at the West Leyden Auditorium Wednesday, October 30th. Come out and support the East and West Concert Band, Orchestra, and Symphonic Band as they play some spooky pieces including the Halo theme song, Winchester March, Redemption, and Waltz of the Wicked. The band students are estatic as they have been working on these pieces the past few months and are ready to show the Leyden students all their hard work.

Senior Dannalee Mata has participated in band all four years at Leyden and this will be her last Halloween concert. “It feels bittersweet because I am excited to perform, but sad it will be my last concert of this fun style. I will definitely miss all of the goofy energy in the air, it makes us feel less pressured to perform well.” One of her favorite parts of the concert is when Mr. Miller, the band director, changes into multiple costumes throughout the night.

Considering this is Dannalee’s last Halloween concert, she has some wise words for all of the underclassmen, “Listen to other musicians! Athletes watch pro sports, etc. to improve or  just for fun, If you want to be a better musician, you should listen to professional musicians that play your instrument, not just regular pop music.”

We hope to see you at the band concert that is bound to be a great and memorable time. Don’t forget to wear your halloween costume and bring your Leyden pride to the event that’s sure to get you in the spooky spirit.
