Madrigal Dinner Rings In The Christmas Season

With Christmas around the corner, Leyden High School’s Chamber Choir rang  in the merry season by putting on the Annual Olde English Yuletide Dinner, otherwise known as Madrigals, this past weekend.

The Madrigal Dinner is a two and a half hour dinner and performance by the Chambers Singer and Gracenote girls that is set in the medieval time period and is aimed at ringing in the winter spirit.

With the help of their director, Ms. Stacy Cunningham, both groups rehearsed hours of music throughout the weeks leading up to the performances.

Not only do the guests get to hear the music of both groups, they also get entertained by the Jesters, chosen each year by Ms. Cunningham. Senior Luis Vera, a Chambers singer of two years, was one of the Jesters a couple years back and says his favorite song to perform is, “Carol of Bells, because that is the song that inspired me to become a Chambers singer.”

This past weekend’s event was senior Presley Brandt’s fourth time participating in the Madrigal Dinner. She has participated in the Madrigal Dinners as both a Gracenote and Chambers singer during her high school experience.

“I love how hard we all work, and how it all pulls together in the end. It makes for a great show and makes us all feel good,” Brandt added.

Not only is the show a good performance for the guests, it is also a great bonding experience for the participants.

“I love getting to know the Gracenotes, because it brings us together and gives us a bond with the other choir,” senior Jordan Arredondo said.
