New Blue Figure at Leyden Revealed

You know now that Leyden have a new mascot this year, and it’s the Blue Man, but have you ever wondered how does it feel being the Blue Man? Where did he come from? Can you be the Blue Man next year?

The Blue Man is a recent character and the sidekick of Leyden’s mascot, the Eagle. Both work together to pump up the crowd and energize them, but ever wonder what goes on inside the Blue Man’s head and how the Blue Man was chosen?

“You don’t choose to be the Blue Man, the Blue Man chooses you,” the Blue Man said.

This character was officially introduced to everyone during the Homecoming Pep Rally of 2012 at the West Leyden campus’ field house.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I’d portray such an energetic and fantastic character, but I love every second of it, and I’m glad I was given the opportunity,” the Blue Man said.

But how exactly was the Blue Man character born?

“Mr. Manola and a couple students brought up the idea and we ran with it!,” the Blue Man said.

Now you might ask, are there any requirements to be one of the mascots?

“School spirit and energy. Being the Blue Man is no easy task,” he said.

Yet, he’s getting people’s attention.

“Many people were not interested in the Eagle and the Blue Man, but recently more and more have asked to be part of it,” Mr. Dominic Manola said.

Now that he has had the privilege of being part of this, would he recommend it to others?

“Of course. It’s a ton of fun and a great experience.”

Unfortunately, The Blue Man does not,and will never speak. It must keep his identity as the Blue Man a secret.

You can catch the Blue Man, and see how energetic his performance is, by attending upcoming Leyden games and events.

If you’re interested in getting involved or would like more information about becoming The Blue Man for next year, you can talk to Mr. Manola in the Student Activities Office.
