Who hasn’t been in a situation where you really just don’t want to go to class? We’ve all had those days where sitting in the halls doing absolutely nothing seems like a better alternative than anything in class that day.

For our security guards here at Leyden, that’s an everyday occurrence. I decided to catch up with Gregory Aguilar on his 22nd year here at East as a security guard about some of the absolute worst excuses he’s ever gotten from students trying to ditch class.

1) “The teacher doesn’t like me.”

2) “I was going to be late, and I didn’t want to be late so I just didn’t go.”

3) “I didn’t do my homework because I was up late playing Xbox, so I didn’t go to class.”

4) “I’m going to the bathroom.”

5) “I left something in my locker.”

Mr. Aguilar also told me the most common hide-out for a student who is trying to ditch is on the 2nd floor south hallway over by the South Gym.

His advice for all the “ditchers”: “Just go to class. It may not be your favorite class, but you can make it through it,” he added.
