A mess everywhere. The commons filled with eager students trying to get their food and others trying to participate in pieing a friend or a staff member in the faceOn November 25th, Ripple Effect held their Pie in the Face fundraiser in the West Leyden commons. Students were able to pay $5 to pay another student in the face and they were also able to enter a raffle to pie a staff member in the face. “ I thought it was extremely fun, and it was also nice to see my friends get pied. Except I think I got it the worst, I was covered like crazy” said senior Miguel Angel Jimenez. A lot of students came to support the cause of the fundraiser and they were very happy. Co-president Jacqueline Sandoval explained that “ The students in Ripple Effect came up with the idea for the fundraiser and wanted to use the money towards buying Christmas gifts to children in our local community whose families could not afford them. I thought it was a great cause and the pie in the face part was a nice way to bring our student body together. It was fun to see the teachers and administrators get pied, but it was even more fun to see the students piecing each other. I only wanted to help with the fundraiser because the club members wanted to make it happen, and it was a great idea.” Ripple effect was able to raise $200 in profit and an additional $100 from an anonymous donor. Their total being $300. Dr. Veltman, the club’s sponsor, had mentioned “ The students in Ripple Effect came up with the idea for the fundraiser and wanted to use the money towards buying Christmas gifts to children in our local community whose families could not afford them. Senior Cassandra Gutierrez was excited for the event and said “ For me, the best part of the fundraiser was seeing the whole school come together to watch the activity we prepared. It was nice to see the whole school get along and contribute at the same time. Seeing all of their smiles and laughter was definitely a bonus as well. I am looking forward to future fundraisers and hope they bring the community together again while also helping others at the same time.” Ripple Effect has been able to pull off many fun fundraisers this semester. The last one being the Crush soda cans during the lunch periods. A week after the fundraiser the club was able to go shopping and find toys suitable for many kids in need.
