Did you know that approximately 75-80% of kittens on the street die before reaching the age of 6 months?
During a cold windy day mid November, Adrian Angulo, a freshman, gets a phone call from a close friend, who lets him know there’s a stray baby kitten, looking for a home. He had been given the opportunity to give a stray kitten a better life!
Angulo starts by talking about how, “I was not expecting to get a cat, especially being a dog person growing up. But I had seen that there was a missing cat. I was like you know what? I’m going to give it a better home.”
He was very surprised that he got this opportunity. He mentions,“My initial reaction to finding out that I would get her was ,excited because you know, I’d have a new friend, get to do stuff, you know give me something to like to do using my responsibility.”
Since a cat is such a big responsibility and he decided to adopt the kitten right away, he didn’t have much of the proper materials to take care of her,“I started off with honestly probably the worst setup for her. It was just like she was just sleeping on my bed. And then I got her a litter box. But over time I definitely have gotten her a lot more toys.” Says Angulo.
Even though he got a kitten at such short notice, he was still able to quickly think of the name Raven, and that matches her nicely,“I just thought you know cute names and like I don’t know. I think I just thought because black cat, ravens are black. So it just kind of mixed together and that’s how I came up with her name.” adds Angulo.
They haven’t spent a lot of time together. He still has many cute memories with Raven, He says,“Some cute memories I already have with Raven, her and me cuddling at night whenever she just hops on. My bed.” He also mentions something Raven already likes to do,“. Her climbing my blinds. She loves climbing them. I don’t know why, it makes me mad. I feel like she’s going to break them.”
Angulo is still a Freshman but he has a plan on what’s going to happen with him and Raven in the future; “I don’t really plan on going to college, but in the future, I’m definitely taking her with me. She’s not staying here. She is my child, so she’ll be with me for the long run. She’s going to be my best friend for life.”
Now Raven gets to fall into the 30-35% of baby kittens who get saved from the freezing cold streets, living in a nice, warm, and comfortable home !
