Happiness

Samantha Caputo, Co-Editor-In-Chief

Everyday people flow through many different emotions such as depression, anger, and excitement. Yet, is there anything better than the feeling of happiness? Throughout the next few weeks, I will be researching happiness to find the different aspects of being happy, how to “get” happy, and more. Because happiness is interesting to me, I’m currently reading the book Behind Happy Faces by Ross Szabo and Melanie Hall. I believe that this book will give me great insight into the deeper meaning behind happiness.

I like to think of myself as someone who is very effervescent and thoughtful of others. I believe that this drives me to want to know what causes someone to be happy and the different factors of happiness.

Sadly, there are a lot of people in the world who hide their sadness behind a smile. Mental health might not seem like a big deal, but it really is. Your mental health is very closely attached to  your physical health. In fact, an effective way to break someone down is to allow them to sleep only three to five hours a night. When someone sleeps that little, one is bound to be stressed out(Szabo and Hall).

Throughout all of my recent research, my favorite “discovery” was that positivity can actually boost one’s performance. Dr. Barbara Fredrickson believes that our emotions create a cause and effect relationship, thus if a worker is positive, then the work is done better and more efficiently. The different aspects of my book will bring lots of new ideas to the table, and I’m excited to find even more information online.
