Halloween came early this year to both East and West Leyden, and it’s all thanks to the hard work and organizational skills of– Mrs. Eileen Falls and Jennifer Maldonado! Taking place on October 27, the event had the helping hand of over 100 student volunteers who took charge of some of the various fun stages that were held at the newly renovated West Leyden field house!

Catering to over 500 children, not including parents, the Halloween Fun Fair was an utter success and exceeded its goal of providing a fun and free environment for all kids according the the testimony of three of the participants from Leyden’s very own preschool!

Fred Aguilar, 5-years-old, said his favorite part of the event was “throwing the ball into the Pumpkin Buckets because I got to throw a ball into a bucket, and I got candy!”

Gioseppe Risolve, 4-years-old, stated that his favorite part was “making the bracelets” and continued to let us know that the bracelets “took a long time and by then the fair was almost over!”

Ashlyn Wischmeyer, 4 years old, also shared that her favorite part of the fair was “wearing a costume and decorating the pumpkins!”

Yet it wasn’t just the kids who had a blast and the coordinators too had a few words to say about the overall event, which brings us back to Mrs. Falls and Mrs. Maldonado.

Mrs. Falls, the family consumer department chair, expressed her appreciation for the volunteers and the event by sharing some warm hearted words. “I’ve never been more proud of our department here at the Family Consumer department and students– this has been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had here at Leyden throughout my 30 years here.”

Ending with some words of appreciation of her own, Mrs. Maldonado revealed that her favorite part of the event was “watching the high school students’ faces when they were in charge of a certain game and watching those facial expressions as they had fun and helped the little ones have fun!”

All in all, Leyden’s very first Community Halloween Fun Fair was a fulfilling success for all who attended and both Mrs. Falls and Mrs. Maldonado express that there isn’t anything to really change for next year since the parents who attended complimented the smoothness at which the event ran– guaranteeing participation for next years fair!
