WSC (West Suburban Conference) Leaders are up and active getting ready for their core trainings that will be happening in the next couple of weeks. Senior Leaders Michal Cylwik, Ajla Halilovic, and myself, Samantha Caputo, all went out to Addison Trail earlier this week to start our own core trainings so that we can be ready to teach future leaders how to be successful.

The WSC Leaders at Leyden start out as a group of juniors who have shown great leadership throughout the school and that are nominated by teachers and staff. Then going into senior year, three senior leaders are chosen from that group to help the junior leaders grow. The junior leaders will be announced before the next field trip to Addison Trail.

The core training is broken down into three parts: communication, civility, and the leadership cycle. Throughout the session, the leaders dug deeper into these concepts and learned how to take them and relate them to their own lives. Senior Leader Ajla Halilovic is very excited for the upcoming sessions. She stated that she “think(s) we have a really lead team. I think the best part is going to see everyone grow and progress.”

In a couple of weeks, the full on core training will happen at Addison Trail High School where there will be a few senior leaders in each classroom leading one of the three sessions. All “younger” leaders will be put into groups and will attend all 3 sessions. This is a great time for students to learn how to be better leaders, network, and have the ability to converse with other students about their school lives.
