After 3 years of hard work, high school students take on a big task that will determine their future outside of Leyden. This task does not involve homework, sports, or clubs. This task can be considered the most important process during senior year. On November 1st early college applications are due. East Leyden students share their story of what the hardest part of the college application process is.
College applications are able to be sent any time, but most students get it done during early admission to secure their spot for their future home. A senior at East Leyden shares that “The hardest part of applying to colleges was writing my personal statement. I’ve never been a fan of writing about myself, and the process took multiple weeks with several revisions.”said Jimmy Kafka. Kafka shares that writing your personal essay can be extremely tough. The personal essay can be argued to be the most important piece of the application, because colleges can see what kind of person you are. Yes, it may be time consuming but you really want to ace your essay.
Another student shares what their main struggle is “I would say that the hardest part was getting the motivation to finish all of the applications. I just struggled managing my time and basically waited to the deadline to finish it all up. It was mainly just my fault. I applied to a bunch of colleges, including Elmhurst, EIU, NIU, Concordia, Loyola, and Texas A&M, with Loyola and A&M being the top choices, but I’ll go with whoever gives me the most money” said Elvis Ruelas. Ruelas shares that procrastination can play a huge role with applications as well. He completed all of his applications, but he does mention that if you do apply to many colleges, time management has to be good in order for you to complete all the applications.
Lastly, Luciano Reeves shares his application process, “So far, I’ve only applied to Triton but I plan on applying to a few universities to maybe get some money from them. The hardest part about applying is finding the time to do so. I’m already busy with school, work, and personal stuff going on.” said Lucianno Reeves. Reeves mentions he only applied to one college, but he plans to apply to more. Luciano Reeves mentions that the hardest part of his applications was finding time to work on them due to having different responsibilities.
With early applications submitted, East Leyden students now look ahead with a mix of excitement and nerves, ready for the next chapter. As letters of acceptance come storming into mail boxes of seniors, big decisions will have to be made. Seniors are ready to soar off. Goodluck Seniors.
