Dunkin vs. Starbucks

Dunkin+vs.+Starbucks

Everyone is either a part of team Dunkin’ Donuts or team Starbucks. Whether you’re a hardcore, biased consumer of one, or would just prefer one over the other, everyone seems to be inclined towards one of the two coffee chains. There are multiple factors that can influence one’s decision on where they prefer to get their cup of coffee or tea.

For starters, since the fall season is now upon us, it is appropriate to take a look at each coffee place’s seasonal menu and see which has more to offer in efforts to feed America’s fall obsession. Starbucks and Dunkin’ both offer: pumpkin spice and salted caramel drinks in all shapes and forms (hot, iced, super iced and etc.) Starbucks also serves a “chili mocha” new this season. Since Dunkin’ is also a donut shop, it is expected that they have a ton of crazy seasonal treats. They serve many pumpkin flavored food such as donuts, munchkins and muffins. Also, new to this season’s fall menu, Reese’s peanut butter squares and caramel apple croissant donuts are now introduced.

Next, convenience. This may depend on where you live, but from my experiences in the Chicagoland area, Starbucks always seems to be busier and more time consuming. It seems like you can just walk into a Dunkin’ and get your drink or snack momentarily after placing your order. When you walk into a Starbucks, or even go through the drive-thru, it seems as if you’re waiting forever. I once spent my whole lunch break waiting in the Starbucks drive-thru. So if you’re on a tight schedule, I would suggest Dunkin’ Donuts.

Another factor to look at would be prices. No matter what coffee chain you side with, it is a well-known fact that Starbucks is much more costly. If you decide to get a small or tall cup of coffee, Dunkin’ (10fl oz) will be $1.81 while Starbucks (8fl oz)will be $3.36. If you’re a coffee addict, like me, that adds . Say you get one small cup of coffee every morning for a year (probably not the best idea from a health standpoint) that is $660.65 for Dunkin’ and $1,226.40 for Starbucks. It’s all about how much you’re willing to spend on your hot caffeinated drink.

Finally, and most importantly, the tastes. Everyone has different taste preferences in food and drinks, and this factor is completely up to you. In my opinion, Starbucks has a fresher taste, like the coffee was just brewed, whereas Dunkin’ kind of taste like it’s been sitting there. I know people who completely agree or completely disagree with me.
