Class of 2016

Looking to get involved sophomores?

With Krispy Kreme donut sales kicking off last week, and the club’s recent involvement in homecoming preparations last month, many students may be looking to get involved in Class of 2016.

“The club is all about showing school pride and getting involved,” said Lavinia Santos, sophomore and current member of Class of 2016.

Class of 2016 is mainly based on getting students involved in the school and excited to show and spread their school spirit, which they do by planning numerous events throughout the school year, ranging from fundraisers to organizing events in the Junior Olympics at the end of the year.

Cindi Gustafson, Class of 2016 co-advisor, added how “it’s a good opportunity for kids to get involved with students that are in their own year, and it feels a little bit less threatening.”

She went on to add that “it provides more opportunities for leadership and growth because you’re only with other sophomores,” unlike other clubs that may be dominated by juniors and seniors.

Fellow advisor Lauren Martire, stated that “all you have to be is a sophomore and just want to get involved at Leyden and want to have fun and that’s it.”

Anyone can join and “…all club members get first dibs on all the Junior Olympic events and get to design the t-shirt for the class…,” Mrs. Martire said, which shows that you get some “pretty cool privileges” for being involved.

Students who are interested can attend a Class of 2016 meetings which are held on Tuesdays and are usually once a month. Looking to join Leyden sophomores? Be sure to contact Mrs. Martire or Mrs. Gustafson for more information.
