Senior Night: Swimming Edition

Rebecca Miranda, Reporter

On January 29, our senior Leyden boys swam for the last time at the West pool. Before the meet began I asked Captain Blake what we should be looking forward to or what we should expect and he said … “We all just want to beat our records and finish with a win”. So as the meet began Blake Thompson started off the eagles with a good win on his 200 freestyle, aside from the individual race the boys did amazing on the relay. Then during the break in between the first and second half of their meet, Blake Thompson, Rob Gussy, Jake Malo, Geoffrey Sarno, Matthew Sifuentes, Dan Moreno, Stephen Holland, and Pedro Duarte were all honored for their commitment and the many years they swam at Leyden. Not only did the boys have their last home meet, but they decided to share their special night with Addison and Willowbrook as they honored their seniors as well. As the meet continued the boys did just what they wanted and won their meet. Although many swimmers didn’t get best times they sure gave AT,WB a run for their money. With their second win in one week (Maine East was on Wednesday) they are set for their conference meet this Saturday. After the boys took the win Rob Gussy say “ This couldn’t have been a better night, It’s definitely a night to remember” and the boys celebrated with going out to eat at buffalo wild wings.
