Boys Track and Field Preseason: Distance Team Looking Ahead

The boys Track and Field distance team is hitting the pavement and weights in preparation for their upcoming season.

Although the season does not begin until mid January, the boys are already starting to train through open gym.

The purpose of open gym is to meet your teammates and to train with someone so you can get better for the season.

Last year the boys Track and Field placed sixth out of seven teams in conference. This year the boys look to redeem themselves and try to make in the top three.

The boys made significant improvements last year. During every meet, there was at least one athlete running the best time he had ever run.

Then, during Sectionals last year, the boys four by eight hundred relay team missed qualifying for state by eight tenths of a second.

The boys Track and Field distance team expect a lot from seniors Rocco DiMatteo and Nick Avila who were All-Conference in cross country this year. They both had a disappointing end during the cross country season when they failed to qualify for state and are looking forward to track where they are expected to place in each race to help the team win.

Anyone who wants to run can show up at West Leyden on Monday’s and Wednesday’s at 3:30 pm.
