Leyden Kicks

Varsity boys soccer prepare themselves for the second half of the season, after an upsetting start to the season.

After getting off into a somewhat upsetting start to the season, the boys varsity soccer team have since then soared high, winning 4 in a row.

“State!” is what Senior Freddy Suarez said when asked about this season’s expectations.

Though they have come close, Leyden has never won a state title.

But this year the title seems within reach.

And with last year’s controversial, season ending loss to Glenbrook North, the team seems more determined than ever.

With 6 starters returning from last year’s squad, Suarez and senior Hector Arroyo were in agreement in terms of what they learned from last year’s playoff loss: “wisdom.”

Arroyo added that now that he has “the playoff experience” under his belt, it’s made him a stronger and smarter soccer player.

He later went on to explain that losing, in a way made him more determined because he never wanted to feel like a “loser” again.

The Leyden boys are currently ranked 16th in state, and intend to take conference this year.

The boys definitely have what it it takes to bring the gold home, so fans can look forward to their first play off game on Oct. 15.
