Girls Bowling Gearing Up for Upcoming Season

The girls bowling team placed sixth in state last year and has even higher hopes for this year. They had a 7-1 record and their only loss was to Downers Grove South.

“I think the team will continue to do well like last year. I hope we will place first, second, or third because last year as a team we placed 6th,” junior Reba Hall said.

Fellow teammate Kiston agrees that the team did good last year but that they have the potential to do better.

“We did good but I know we could have done better,” sophomore Ashley Kriston said. “We have not reached our full potential; we are a young team and we can get so much further.”

The team put a lot of time and effort as a whole in order to achieve their sixth place in state. The team practiced Monday through Friday at Brunswick Zone unless there is a match. The coach even had a team building instructor come in on the first day of practice so that the girls would get to know each other through various team building activities. At times the team hit rough patches but they were able to come together as a team and overcome their differences.

“We worked together as a team very well. We helped each other when needed. We spend a lot of time together and a lot of time practicing every week,” Hall said.

The girls on the team don’t only work their hardest in hopes of achieving an individual title, but they all have to come together and help each other in hopes that the team will make it to state.

“As much as people think it’s an individual sport it not,” Kriston said.

Along with the teams’ 6th place finish, West Leyden’s Reba Hall placed 3rd in state.

“I didn’t expect to place that high, but it was a great feeling to experience the reward of hard work,” Hall said.

She hopes to get another state title this year.

Practice for the girls bowling team begins on November 5th and they will play their first game against Fenton High School on November 20th.
