Dodging for Dollars

West Leyden’s Entrepreneurship class gathered dodgeball fans from both campuses for the first Annual Charity Dodgeball Tournament on Tuesday, October 29th from 3:45 until 7:00 pm.

Funds generated went towards Children’s Memorial Hospital. The 23 teams that participated and the students that came to support their friends raised $1,100 for the charity event.

The idea for the dodgeball tournament first began within Jason Cartwright’s entrepreneurship class at West Leyden. A survey was later sent out to the student body to make the final decision on the most popular fundraising event.

The dodgeball tournament turned out be a great way to have fun and raise money.

“We just went hard. Even though we lost we kept going strong. All the girls had something to contribute to the team,” said senior Jessica Plessner, who talks about how her team “SQUAD” did at the tournament.

Plessner and other team captains selected 8 to 10 people for their team which included selecting their own personalized team name.

Team “EB” from East Leyden ended up taking the win.

Captain and senior Aaron Farkas said “it was such a fun experience to have my friends win a dodgeball tournament. And I’m so happy we won because we got Wingstop for a reward.”

Mr. Cartwright is already thinking ahead to future events.

“I’m planning a 64 team entrepreneurship 3 on 3 tournament for the Danny Did Foundation.”

Don’t dodge the next fundraising event, you might miss out on a ball!
