Teen Rights Blog #3

The non-stop issue that has been going on for years is dress code. While in a school environment, the school does have the right to regulate specific clothing if it distracts others from learning. Students should not be allowed to come to school with T-Shirts that have gang relation, pornography, racial slurs, or other disruptive symbol.  As spring comes around shorts become an even bigger issue to girls. In most schools if the shorts don’t reach fingertip length then it is not appropriate to wear them. As this issue occurs at most schools, it also occurs at Leyden. Around the end of the school year girls are always getting in trouble for wearing shorts that are too short. Most school would automatically give a detention, however the first time is just a warning. Teens are unaware that they cannot wear certain clothing to school because it distracts the educational environment.
