Biden Was Right To Leave Afghanistan

It’s in our best interest to leave Afghanistan: this war has lasted too long and killed 6,294 American people just in April. The war has killed many more people in the opposition and citizens of Afghanistan. This war did not just cost us human lives, but dollars as well. The U.S has debt finance of over two trillion dollars paying for Afghanistan and Iraq.

Who This Decision Affects The Most

I understand why people disagree with his decision. This decision has affected people’s jobs, like the U.S. contractors or any career that is involved with the military. Manufacturers of weapons are harshly affected by this: the war made them a lot of profit. This affects the economy of the country and a portion of the population’s livelihood. We also left Afghanistan to be taken over by the Taliban once again. All sites that were controlled by the U.S. were immediately taken over by the terrorist group; the Afghanistan Government wasn’t able to stop them before and still can’t now.

Why We Should Stay

Some U.S. citizens disagree; they believe the reason we should stay and help Afghan citizens is due to our mistakes in bombing them. Most people believe that we should stay in Afghanistan because of 9/11. The main reason that the U.S was there in the first place was to make sure an attack like this couldn’t happen again. U.S soldiers died trying to stop the Taliban from causing any more harm to Afghan citizens and American ones alike. American forces were able to kill the Al Qaeda leader, Osama Bin Laden, but this didn’t cause the terrorist group to collapse and they retreated. People believe that we should stay and completely defeat the Taliban before we pull out of the war. These are all valid reasons why this decision wasn’t the best one.

Debt And Future Of The U.S

Although this is true, I still believe the right decision was to leave. We used our pain in 9/11 as our motivation to pursue the Taliban in Afghanistan. This as a result causes more pain for the families of our brave soldiers. America should have pulled out of the war after Osama Bin Laden, the one who planned the attack for 9/11, was killed. After his death, we could have pulled out of the war then because we protected Afghan citizens while we were there and sent a message to the Taliban. Another reason why this decision is good is that we are in massive debt because of the war. Since the U.S is two trillion dollars in debt the estimated interest rate is 6.5 trillion dollars by 2050. This money could have been used by the federal government for helping the country with natural disasters, accidents, necessities they can’t afford, and/or other unfortunate events.

If we continue participating in the war it could hurt us even more later. We also have sent too many U.S soldiers to their deaths during this war. Biden also commented that they were not there to help build up their nation but to defend their citizens and give their Government time to counter the Taliban. Unfortunately, Afghanistan’s Government isn’t really suited or strong enough to counterattack or defend against the Taliban.

These are the reasons why Biden’s decision is the best one we can make. We need to get our brave troops to come home safely and return to their families; Biden’s decision most likely helps more people than it hurts and should be the final decision.
