He played football and loves to run, very consistently. He is hardworking, who is this – it’s Elijah Scheidler. Elijah has grown into one of the team’s top runners, “ I finished right around fourth overall on the team. So my three mile time is 16:48, which is pretty good.” Something that makes him stand out is the dedication he has taken to improve, even on days when motivation is low. “I think it’s just a commitment to wanting to be great. So even though I didn’t want to be there for that specific day, I still wanted to race well at the end of the week for the meet. So that pushed me to go further.” Elijah’s best season was this year because “My PR at the end of the season. I PR by, I think almost 50 seconds, which is a really big PR at the end of the season.” While he narrowly missed qualifying for state, “I almost qualified out of sectionals into regionals, and my time would be about a minute and 20 seconds off of qualifying from state this year.” Behind every race Elijah was supported by his father, “He drives me from practice and back to school all the time, and he always comes to all my meets. So it’s very nice to see him there” What truly keeps Elijah coming back, though, is the team. Holding one another accountable at practice, His Teammates would always be there for each other. One person that helped Elijah was “Daniel Perez. He’s one of the students that go to West. He’s been my friend ever since freshman year, really, and we’ve just pushed each other to be great.” Looking ahead, Elijah hopes to continue running in college, possibly at a Division III school, and keep the sport as a lifelong passion. One thing that he always keeps with him is “Coach always says, Don’t give 100% every day. Give 90% every day. So you can just always come in. It’s not the expectation of 100% it’s 90% every day, and that’s how you get better, instead of 100%”.
