Intramurals Off To A Strong Start

With good organization and student promotion, intramural basketball is starting to become a popular before-school activity.

Intramurals consists of pickup games at the East Leyden field house every Tuesday and Thursday at 7:00 am.

Basketball intramurals began after Thanksgiving break.

In the past, intramurals consisted of basketball and floor hockey, but this year there has only been intramural basketball.

“In the past, there haven’t been enough kids for floor hockey, so this year we just extended the basketball program,” said Mike Fazzio, the supervisor.

Thanks to the decision to expand basketball, students can now play for the remainder of the year.

Adam Wronski, an intramural participant added that it is a “really good way to start your day.”

Basketball-loving students like Wronski are looking to intramurals as a good way for recreation and practice.

The program features 30 minutes of intense basketball games, and games are five-on-five in a tournament bracket system.

“It’s a way for people who didn’t make the team to play competitively,” Wronski said.

Intramural basketball is a serious deal , with 3 full court games going on at any given time.

“We’ve got a pretty good turnout this year,” Mr. Fazzio said.

Unfortunately, it is past the deadline for new students to join, so they will just have to wait until next year.
