Her energy radiates brightly wherever she goes and her smile lightens any room she walks into. Ms. Kirkus is one of the French teachers here at Leyden. She teaches French 2, French 3, and French 4/AP. She also runs the French club after school.
Although Ms. Kirkus now runs the club smoothly, there was a time when she didn’t get the hang of it at first. “I remember when I started, I didn’t really know what I was doing with French club four years ago. I’d make the announcement and sometimes people would come, but I didn’t really know the school like that yet, or know my classes like that, or know what to do,“ she sighed. But as time passed, she found more creative ways to up get the people involved.
“I started getting to know the students that I had taught from that previous semester a lot better. And naturally, more and more people would just come to the classroom, and that formed the first core group of our French club.” Ms. Kirkus speaks proudly of her work in promoting the club, mentioning her thanks to the club president, Tavey Tran, and the PR, Jocelyn Zwalinski.
Ms. Kirkus will continue her teaching here at Leyden and encourages all to join her- whether it’s in class or after school during STT.
