As the bell rang on Friday, May 16, at 2:40 pm, Leyden students rushed out of the school building, in a rush to get home. Everyone had to be ready at 6:00pm for Prom! Victoria Segundo, a Senior at East Leyden High School, has been waiting for this day all school year. Now the day has come and she cannot wait! Segundo starts off by mentioning how, ”
The day of prom was still a school day for the juniors so I still attended all my classes.” This took up the majority of the time she had thought she had for getting ready for the night. Segundo says, “Once the last bell rang I ran to the bus, go
t home, redid my makeup, put on my dress, and had my ma help me with my hair.” Segundo also made sure she had chosen the perfect dress for the night. She says, “had 5 dresses to try on and left with a long emerald green dress. Since the theme that year was The Great Gatsby: Masquerade I wanted everything to connect back to it. My green dress represents the green light that Gatsby watches across the water, which symbolizes Gatsby’s love for Daisy, money, and the American Dream.” Once she arrived at prom she walked through the doors and immediately saw familiar faces. She mentions, “I had so much fun seeing everyone and dancing the whole night.” Even though her night was amazing she did have a few people that made it even better: “The people that made the night better were the seniors of 2025, most of them I’ve been friends with since my freshman year so it meant a lot to me when I got to spend their last school event with them.” As the clock strikes 10:30pm and then night has come to the end Segundo has realized that she just had the best last night ever with her favorite seniors.
