The commentators announced her name as she went up to serve: the whistle is blown, and the serve goes over, she aces them effortlessly as she aces her tests.

Brianna Salguero , a student at west , she gives her 110% everywhere she goes which makes her an exceptional student athlete
Brianna was able to put herself out there to explore new hobbies/interests . She exclaims, ”I tried out for volleyball for fun in sixth grade, didn’t make it, tried again, then I made it.”
It takes courage to even try something new to begin with and even when Brianna didn’t make it, she tried again. She says, “So once I made it in 7th grade , I enjoyed every bit of it because it made me become closer with people I didn’t think I would be friends with”
Most athletes make close bonds with people they never expected all because of a sport they both enjoy . She says, “What made me try out in high school was the fact that I was on volleyball for two years already, so I felt like I should try out just to see how it is.”
Since she has already dedicated so much time to this sport, she decided that she should keep playing as it would have been a waste of time if she hadn’t. She says, “So since I have decided to continue this sport , dealing with homework, I had to put away a lot of things, like going out, which is something I really like to do, and going on my phone. So I had to prioritize my homework over everything and study.”
She is really putting the student in the student athlete even if it drains her, she pushes and pushes herself so at the end she is her best self. She says , “Someone that made it easier was Anjalee Rivera; she actually ended up quitting mid season ,but the reason she was my favorite was because she always kept a positive attitude, and we would always laugh on the bench because we were bench buddies!”
Making memories is the most valuable thing you can get out of a sport , growing bonds with people you have never expected to be friends with is what it’s about. Brianna says with a smile, “My favorite memory was when we lost all five games. Because even though it was really sad and pathetic, I thought it was just really funny, because we can’t manage to win a single game, because we lost all of our sets.”
The commentator announces ” Ace by #4 , Brianna Salguero.” This won’t be the last time she hears that sentence echoing throughout the gym.
