The Leyden hockey team has been playing great all season, taking a 14-3 record into Friday’s game against Fox Valley.

In the first period, the Eagles were putting in a lot of effort, but the Hawks lead 2-1. In the second period, the Eagles struggled to get it out of their zone and Fox Valley immediately scored three consecutive goals. With the score 5-1, the coaches decided to take out the back up goalie and to play the main goalie, Michael Pasterz.

Pasterz commented that he “felt like the team could’ve had more energy during the 2nd period because we came out strong in the 1st.” The team proceeded into the 3rd period with the score at 6-2. Towards the middle of the 3rd a player from Fox Valley left the game after taking a shot to the cup from a slapshot taken their left defenseman. The game ended with a score of 7-3. Leyden’s 3 scorers were Michael Troppina, Adam Brimie, and Giovanni Gulino. “We look what we could have done better and work on it. We will shake it off and forget about the loss so we can get them next game by playing our hardest.

“We lacked energy and excitement. After a few bad goals, we got down when we should’ve got back together and play harder,” Pasterz commented. The loss gives Fox Valley sole possession of second place.
