Homecoming Pep Rally: New Spin on an Old Tradition

Leyden will have its annual pep rally September 27 at 7:15 p.m. in the West Leyden Field House directly after the faculty football game.

The pep rally includes the parade of athletes and performances from orchesis, poms, cheerleading, band, and choir.

Homecoming court will also be presented on stage. Junior and seniors from each campus voted for their campus’ homecoming court by nominating ten senior girls and ten senior boys.

In order to be eligible for court the students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, be involved in one co-curricular program at Leyden (sport, activity, leadership position, honor society), and be approved by the Dean of Students with no suspensions or major discipline infractions.

The homecoming king and queen from each campus will be announced at the rally based on the votes taken during the lunch periods on Monday, September 24th and Tuesday, September 25th. Only upperclassmen are allowed to vote.

Of course, there will be surprise events too, but that’s something students will have to wait to see.

“We have an awesome new introduction to the pep rally,” exclaimed Student Activities Director Dominic Manola, who is in charge of the pep rally.

Students are also looking forward to taking part in the rally.

“I don’t only perform as part of color guard, but I also go because of the lively, exciting feeling I get while being there. You are with your friends and everyone comes together as a school,” admits senior Kassandra Torres.

Students should attend the pep rally “to get pumped up… and rally,” Mr. Manola said.

“Nothing’s better than screaming and losing your voice with friends,” senior Denise Moran added.

“I’m looking forward to the eagle mascot beating up the mustang mascot,” senior Tim Hester said.

Torres encourages people to come because “there is nothing else like it; what else are you going to do on a Thursday night? Sit at home, or go out and have a blast and make more high school memories?”
