Teen Alcoholism #4

Teen alcohol abuse usually follows along with extreme effects. Alcohol damages the liver, affects the brain, and can alter behavior. To start off, alcohol depresses the central nervous system and alters a persons behavior as well as the body’s ability to function. The brain functions slow down, decreasing balance, eyesight, and reasoning ability. Secondly, alcohol stays in the body until it is metabolized. The greater portion of the alcohol is processed by the liver. However, the liver cant function efficiently while this is occurring which can lead to suffering from cirrhosis. Lastly, not only can alcoholism ruin your liver and brain, but it can ruin your life. Over time teens can develop an addiction both physically and emotionally. According to Teen Help, 1.9% of 10th graders have been daily drinking for at least 1 month at some point in their life. However, 3.6% of 12th grades use alcohol daily. These statistics clearly demonstrate that as teens get older they become more addicted to alcohol which can lead to serious effects overtime.
