Day by day they please the school with their delicious snacks. They lay low as they avoid getting caught by the staff. They’re on a mission of giving their peers what they really want most. From cheetos to airheads, they build up much dough. The more they bring, the more that gets sold. At the end of the day, they compare how much they’ve grown. People ask “Where do they come from?” and “How do they know?”. The school snack plugs are here to share more!
School snack plugs have become very popular throughout many schools in the U.S. Students have found ways to make money by selling their products through friends and peers at school. From carrying their goodies in duffel bags to dodging administrators as they break the rules, they manage to keep customers happy.
Throughout the school year, students have argued that cafeteria snacks aren’t the tastiest due to nutritional health standards. These new nutritional snacks have kids craving the taste of their favorite treats all throughout the day.
Students noticed something needed to be done in order to keep everyone satisfied while waiting for lunch time to arrive. That’s when “Snack Plugs” came in bringing yummy snacks to sell that everyone enjoys.
From lunch to seminars, sellers take any chance to sell their snacks. Students have been selling these kids out desperate for more yummines.
How it works – Sellers bring a variety of different snacks to school in an extra bag or pouch in which they make sure to sell to peers. Customers pay in cash or through digital wallet apps in exchange for enjoyable treats. Prices vary depending on what the snack is as well as how good it’s doing selling wise.
Sellers typically sell the most during passing periods, classes or lunch. Some students buy during fourth period lunch while others hit them up during seminars.
The idea of snack selling was originally brought by students wanting to sell yummy goods for others to enjoy. The idea eventually spread throughout social media encouraging others to do the same.
@Carloss.bread, a tik tok influencer who gives snack selling guidance shares the idea came from another influencer on tik tok. “I want to make money too,” he thought as he took the first step into building his business.
“Most of us snacks sellers started off with $0 and nothing to sell. I saved up and started off with $50 which eventually led me to making triple the amount.”
While seeing the growth he made through his business, he decided he wanted to help other young adults who are looking for an easy way to make money. That’s when he made his account @Carloss.bread on tik tok gaining over 99k+ followers.
After blowing up, more and more kids all over the country started creating their own businesses. Soon snack plugs were sure to be all over schools.
While being highly successful, sellers run into a big problem of trying to not get caught by administration. They stay on the low making sure no school staff come upon their business. There have been many cases in which students have had to shut down their businesses due to staff finding out.
This problem is the reason why these small businesses must stay on the low. While trying to gain new customers, sellers have to find a way to share and promote their snacks without getting caught. Asking friends and customers to spread the word is the way in which they promote and sell their goods.
As ideas spread the amount of business going around grow. Previous sellers have to deal with incoming competition that may affect their flow of sales. As the process of attracting more customers is complicated already, how does one beat incoming competition?
“I just try to undercut and also be a better quality person overall” says Anonymous #1 a student from leyden high school.
Anonymouse #2 follows up by saying “Different owners sell different snacks that others may not have, leaving customers buying from other businesses.”
After asking both students to go into a deeper talk on thoughts after high school anonymous #1 mentioned the reason he got into selling was due to his passion for entrepreneurship.
“I love being in classes that involve entrepreneurship as I begin to start my own business,” he says.
Starting a business at a young age gives students great opportunities for the future. It helps have background knowledge and skill for a better understanding on what they’d like to do after high school.
Anonymous #2 talked about starting their own vending machine business after finding lots of passion for selling snacks at school. “Starting from 0 and seeing how far I’ve come makes me feel very proud of myself and I would definitely like to continue selling yummy snacks that everyone can enjoy!”
Both sellers love being teen entrepreneurs and love the fact that they can financially maintain themselves. “I like being able to go out and buy myself my own things without having to ask my mom for money. I’ve also learned to be more financially independent as well as having a vocab expansion within the businesses industry.”
