Every student who drives and doesn’t have a parking pass knows NOT to park in the church lot next to West Leyden. Those who are brave enough to risk it spend their morning constantly looking over their shoulder, sprinting to get into the building and hoping they don’t get caught by Mr.Morris. After 25 years of serving the West Leyden community, Mr Morris, one of the school’s most respected and feared security guards, is retiring. Friday, December 12th will officially be the last day on the job. “ Getting to know students after they graduate” Over the years many students and faculty members grew close with their fellow security guard and got to build a friendship within the community. Even besides all the attitude and moody teenagers, Mr.Morris always showed up with a smile on his face ready to keep everyone safe. There even was a segment in the yearbook in which previous students voted on what student was Mr.Morris favorite. One of the funniest and unforgettable moments at Leyden was “the chickens in a 260 haul.” After 25 years, that memory will always travel wherever Mr.Morris goes. Everyone wishes they can go back and give one piece of advice to their younger self. Mr. Morris says “Have more passion and patience with students.”Patience and passion is one of the most important qualities anyone who wants to work with students should know. And over time they are skills who Mr.Morris was able to learn and apply to students. There is one thing Mr.Morris is looking forward to and that is moving to “Murrow Beach, South Carolina.” After countless years of dealing with fights, drug busts and your typical high school drama, he is excited to take a trip to “Greece” where he will have the time of his life.West Leyden will miss his presence, humor and watchful eyes he has over the parking lot. His many years of work are greatly appreciated and will be missed. Happy retirement Mr.Morris, We wish you the best!
